Turntable Jams: Your 'One Word' Band Name, Mixtape of Greatness

Their names may be short, but these bands with one-word names are some of the most significant and influential in the history of music. From Rush and Aerosmith to Oasis and Nirvana, there's no shortage of musical genius here.

Nirvana

Made up of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl, the Seattle-based grunge band secured their first megahit with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" off their second album Nevermind in 1991. The band became well-known for their dynamic contrasts in sound and mystifying lyrics. As a result, Nirvana has long been considered one of the most influential alt rock bands in history. Sadly, Cobain committed suicide in April of 1994, ending the band's run. Nirvana was officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

Coldplay

Coldplay was formed by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland in 1996. They quickly recruited drummer Will Champion and bass player Guy Berryman and released their first studio album Parachutes in 2000. The rock band's musical style has always been classified as meditative in nature, with their lyrics both reflecting and inciting intense feelings and emotions. With more than 80 million records sold worldwide, Coldplay is one of the best-selling musical acts of all time.
